Watching Numb3rs tonight, I was chuffed to see Buzz Aldrin at the end of the ep. escorting Larry from the FBI offices to take him to NASA for the launch of the shuttle.
some TV moments are totally cool!

a rare family** moment last night when we were all watching the same telly prog and it wasn't Doctor Who!
As cop shows go Numb3rs is pretty good and focuses on the relationship between two brothers: Charlie is the bright shy maths genius and Don is the hardworking hard-boiled lonely FBI agent. Charlie gets involved with FBI cases by using different maths techniques to analyse the baffling info facing Don & his colleagues. There are some good one-liners and it's well acted, and unusual for showing intellectuals as the heroes.
Like all US franchises the cases are resolved a little bit too quickly for my taste, giving the audience little chance to speculate on whodunit and why. But its definitely worth watching, although not when trying to follow the patterned part of Lorelei.
After successfully casting on the toecap to the right size for Jen , removing the foundation chain and arranging the 64 sts on 4 needles I was ready to go. I read the pattern ( one eye on the TV!) I started, I did the pattern on needles 1&2 and knit 3&4, I continued. It was very hard and it did not look attractive at all. By now I had 2 eyes on the tv, so the sock-in-progress was rested on my lap till the show finished.
The next ep on 5 US was one I'd seen so I took the dog for a walk, mulling over what was wrong with Lorelei. I didn't quite get to the blackboards like Charlie Epps to calculate the maths... It took me about 10 seconds to realise what was wrong. Instead of following the pattern rows 1-8, I had done row 1 three times. No wonder it was so hard and looked so awful.
I tried to take it back when I'd got back in ( after drying the dogs muddy paws) but accidentally undid the wrapped stitches. Bu**3r!!
So, to paraphrase the great philosopher Orange Juice, its time to rip it up and start Lorelei again.
Damn you, Charlie Epps!!
* the title could look like a Bible reference but its not. If there was a Bible reference for knitting mistakes it would probably be along the lines of "The wise woman redoes her work and stops blaming TV actors."
** both J1 and J2 have watched Numb3rs with me for a while, but the was D's first. He enjoyed it, even though Peter MacNicholl didn't do a Barry White song as in Ally McBeal days.***
