to bebo or not to bebo

that is the question.
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing, end them?

Hamlet thought he was wrestling with life's eternal questions, but man, being a parent in the noughties is tough. I went to an Internet safety awareness talk at the local high school last night, organised by Lothian & Borders police and the Education dept. It was very interesting and I learnt some stuff. I probably use the Internet for more social stuff than most parents and I know some of the jargon, but I hadn't realised how easy it is to piece together bits of information to track down children.

I also didn't know that prospective employers and sponsors are gooogling applicants to see how they behave on their blogs, bebo, forum etc

But the message was, quite sensibly, don't ban your kids , but teach them how to use these things appropriately and to be aware of their safety. And for parents to be involved too. The main worry is that more and more phones have Internet access and parents might not be aware how their kids use them.

But as J1 said, cos his mobly is a pay-as-you-go phone, there is never enough credit on it to get Internet access. A triumph for parental meanness!!

No time for knitting, but did get some more plants out. I'm very disappointed with the sunflowers "girasole" which I'm trialling for GW. They seem very weedy, and I don't think they'll withstand the slings and arrows of the outrageous breezes around here. I also found a rogue potato growing from last year's crop. Of course, its right in the middle of a clump of onions!! D is more interested in the potatoes so the onions may be very, very young when they are picked!!
