head to toe!

I've finally finished the Eton cap for Jen's pal Hannah. Knitting with black wool slowed me down and then I had a horrendous cold last week, I was sneezing so hard that I made myself dizzy. So nothing got done on the pointy sticks- it was too hazardous, I could have poked myself in the eye. I didn't like the idea of sneezing all over someone else's hat either! So now the two teens have similar but not the same hats- that is quite radical!

Jack was home briefly yesterday for a dental appointment, and after I'd dropped him off at the clinic I got distracted by these funky boots. The shoe shop W. Mason's still had some sale items and these were calling to me. They're fab! the Italian leather is very very soft, and the heel is about the highest that I can manage. I'll have to get Jack to come come more often- it's good for my bargain hunting!

fools rush in?

we thought it was an April fool's joke when we heard it on the radio this morning.

But it's true- Alan Shearer is taking over at Newcastle (temporarily) while Joe Kinnear recovers from his heart op, with the sole aim of preventing the Toon being relegated.

Is he being foolish? Or can he lift the spirits in the dressing room and save them from the drop?

His own footballing career was tremendous and hopefully he can reignite the the team (there are some decent players in there) and save them. I just hope it's not a poisoned chalice for him .

Oddly enough D and J1 are now looking forward to the match on Saturday!

My moment of foolishness today was to buy 2 new pairs of shoes today at full price.

It is so warm today (14C) my little tootsies were feeling quite hot in my red ankle boots, so my thoughts turned to new shoes.

I often look at new shoes, but rarely buy them as either the heels are too high or the only shoes available are ballet pump style which make my feet ache.

However I did find some smart navy shoes and some Josef Seibel slip ons (the comfiest shoes evah!!).

So in a moment of madness I bought them both (knowing that if I left either pair behind, then they wouldn't be there in the shop ever again!).

I did manage to squeeze in a little bit of red leather as a girl can't have too many pairs of red shoes in her wardrobe!!

shop till you drop

well , it feels like that when you take a 12 year old girl to buy some shoes.

J2 loves shoes, she really does, and until now buying shoes for her has been fairly easy. But now her feet are ladies 7-8 UK size (US 10-10.5, continental 41-42) and there are very few shoes available for children in those sizes, and I don't think she's ready for 3" heels yet (not for school anyway!).

So after she'd tried on 5 pairs of shoes, with no success, we went for black trainers/sports shoes (which the school accepts, thankfully). NINE pairs of trainers later we'd found some that didn't rub her heels and, more importantly to J2, didn't look like boys' trainers.

It was much more fun when I used to buy her dinky little shoes like these... sigh
