I've been winding up the lovely AraucanÃa sock yarn that I got from Erin, and as I haven't got a proper ball winder, or a spare child, around at the moment, I flipped over my footstool and used it's little legs.The footstool is actually a failed craft project from many moons ago: when D and I were getting married (19 years ago) my concentration went into meltdown, all the organising squished into 3 months was a bit hectic.
A friend who is an occupational therapist advised me to do something that I wouldn't normally do to alleviate the stress, so I made a small tapestry picture of pink roses (this was when I did no crafts at all). It worked and I was so pleased with myself that I bought a footstool kit. The pattern was all triangles in shades of red wine, raspberry, purple, emerald green, gold and red.
But I lost my mojo, took up gardening instead, and after 7 years I had done about half of it. The poor footstool languished in the hall cupboard and the unfinished canvas glowered at me from the corner of the room. When we moved house 3 years ago I had our sofa and chairs recovered in a dark wine velvet and the footstool was covered to match .....and the unfinished canvas was binned.
When I knit, I always sit with my feet resting on the stool, so it has become a much loved, much used piece of furniture, and now it has a new job as a yarn winder!
Sadly, my football team Sunderland wound me up today: we were playing away at West Brom and managed to get beaten 3-0. West Brom are languishing at the foot of the table and hadn't won for 12 games, until my lot turned up. This was the worst we played all season, and instead of climbing up the table, we plummeted back towards the relegation zone. Oh Noes!! so we are 15 th with 35 points, 4 points above relegation and with tough games ahead.
I think I'll go and wind some yarn to cheer myself up!
