we had a jaunt to Glasgow today, to do some shopping and feed no1 kid!
D had been presenting at a housing conference in Dunblane and travelled across country to meet up with Jen and me after we'd done some retail therapy then we took Jack to di Maggio's for an early dinner.
I thought Jack would choose steak or ribs in an attempt to eat as much meat as possible while D paid, but no, he had sea-bream, saying that he never cooks fish for himself so it would be nice to have some cooked for him! I must remember that next time he is home!
I enjoyed our dinner, di Maggio's was pretty busy, even at 5.30pm. The food was good and the company even better.
Jen and I explored a different part of Glasgow, visiting a few of the shops on The Style Mile, and I bought her an adult sized babygro/onesie/romper suit which looks like a black cat. It's not for Hallowe'en, it's just to lounge around in or sleep in. I think she's bonkers, she thinks she looks purrfect!
There are a lot of birthdays in February for my family- which means lots of fun and lots of cake.
Jen and I went to Durham on the 19th for my Mam's birthday. I took the back of Seraphina to check that it fits and to make sure that she likes the colour. It does and she does. Thankfully!
I've started on the front and I'm enjoying doing the lace panels. The original pattern instructions in Let's Knit are written out, but I find it easier to work from charts now, so I've copied the pattern onto knitting graph paper. I'm pleased that my knitting skills have come on so much in the last three years or so that a chart is easier than reading p3tbl. When I started knitting the abbreviations were just gobbledygook!
Then on Thursday Jen was 14, my father-in-law was 79 on Friday and Jack was 18 on Sunday.
Good grief! He's an adult!
Of course, he wasn't planning on celebrating at home, not when he could legally buy a drink or three in Glasgow, so he met up with us in Edinburgh on Friday and we had a three-way celebration for the birthday trio at Vin Caffe. This is one of my favourite bistros: the food is fab and the atmosphere is friendly. David sometimes takes me there for lunch and it was nice to share it with the others for their birthdays.
Saturday was a shopping trip for Jen. My Mother-in-law is a keen shopper and Jennifer had a lot of birthday money to spend. I was there to carry the bags and drive the car! Jennifer is doing her best to boost the British economy by splashing the cash.
I'll have to do a lot of walking and gardening in March to burn off all the calories consumed over the last few days. I wonder how many calories knitting burns?
well the day has arrived - no 1 kid has gone off to University - woohoo!!
It's also the 25th anniversary of David starting work in a proper job after he finished Uni, so it's an odd feeling for both of them!
We took Jack to the student accom. at Caledonian Court, part of Glasgow Caledonian Uni, got him settled in, then took him for tapas at Cafe Andaluz. This might be his last decent meal for a while!
I hadn't seen the campus before (although David had), I like the modern energetic vibe of the place and I think Jack will find it ticks all the boxes for him too.
It's very close to the centre of Glasgow too, so it's going to be a very busy, lively place. In many ways I feel a little envious of him - there are so many possibilities ahead of him, so many opportunities. I enjoyed Uni an awful lot and it can be a wonderful time for lots of reasons.
