unbelievably, England managed to win TWO football games over the past few days, albeit against lower ranking teams.
We beat Bulgaria 4-0 on Fri and Switzerland 3-1 last night.
Not only that, but Darren Bent scored last night, his first for England and the first senior England goal from a Sunderland player in more than 50 years!
And what contributed to this amazing turnaround in form? Different players, a new formation, or a change of tactics ??
No. Not at all.
It was the fact that I wore my South Africa World cup socks on both Fri and Tues. There can be no other reason at all.
I've started a new baby blankie for the volunteer trip next year. It was too hard to resist the siren call of the Debbie Bliss baby cashmerino, and I also needed a project that I can do when I'm waiting for Jen at the dentists/ orthodontists/ hair stylists /stables. (she gets around, does that girl!!).
A simple blanket crocheted in trebles fits the bill nicely. I'm making it in colours which remind me of Neapolitan icecream (chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavours in a block of icecream).
The Port Seton church held an update for supporters last night, with a slideshow of the Kenya team's activities. I saw a photo of my first blankie being given to the lady who did the cleaning for the hostel in which they stayed. She is a single mum to a girl of 7, and it was nice to see where it went. I've had lots of suggestions for resources for charity blankets which I'll pass on to the rest of the knitters. The team took 100 baby blankets this year, of which I made one. The other knitters can produce them much faster than I can! They already get donations of lefover yarn, but are always looking for ways to get more supplies and more donations, so all suggestions are gratefully received.
Et voila!
I've finished my first piece of double knitting too - it's for a swap, which I should have done months ago, but I am catching up, honest!!
It's going a lot faster now that I've realised that I need to do this in natural light so that I can distinguish between the two colours and get the motif right. I found some useful videos on youtube for the initial cast on and set up.
It's always good to try something new. It gets results.

How nice to see your blanket find a home! That would definitely inspire me to knit another couple!
And double knitting! That's something I want to try. Maybe in the New Year once all the Christmas knitting is done ;)
But of course they won because of your Socks....certainly not because of Rooney!!!!!
