Letters from (and to) America

I've been listening to one of my favourite commentators this week, Alistair Cooke. I used to love listening to his "Letter from America" on Radio 4: his erudite, educated, enlightening style was a balm to my ears and I think got a better insight into the lives and beliefs of our American cousins.
It's been fascinating listening to his commentaries (which date back to the 1920's) after the election of Barack Obama. I would love to have heard his critique on the election, as his analysis was always trustworthy and detailed.
At the same time I have posted a parcel to a new friend in the US, Julie, my "secret sister". Its part of a Ravelry swap and it's been fun putting stuff together for her, I've sent a dalek cookie kit to Laurie in Canada, and sent a postcard to some schoolkids in Tennessee as part of their project about the Post Office. Ravelry is fab, you get to know the nicest people! (it's good for knitting too)
