magic & mayhem

I went to see Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince today with D & J2 . Very enjoyable.

I had to laugh when Dumbledore borrows a magazine from Slughhorn's house because he likes the knitting patterns in it!

I love Luna, she's such a kooky kid, and wears the most outrageous clothes.

It's always good to see the cream of British acting too.

I'm busy swatching for Crazy Waves at the moment.

My first choice of yarn Paton's 100% mercerised cotton (top left) is a fab shade of blue but the fabric feels a bit stiff. The second attempt was Rowan all seasons cotton (bottom left) a lovely powder blue but I felt that the yarn was splitty on the hook.

The third try was Freedom Gorgeous (75% bamboo, 25% nylon) in shell pink (all 3 on right). I'm happier with the drape on this, but then I had to choose hook size: first I tried 3.5mm, then 4.5mm, and finally 4.00mm. I like the 4.00mm, but I was using a bamboo hook and I think a metal one would be better. I'll have to try to get one on Monday.

It's fascinating seeing how different yarns takes to this pattern, and interesting to see the effect the different hook sizes have on the drape.

As well as doing crazy waves I think I'll have to cast on some socks, as there will be times that I won't be able to concentrate on the crazy waves pattern as much as I should and I'll need something more straightforward!
