If John Lennon were alive today he might well be an eco-warrior as well as a peacenik.
This year I'm trying out dwarf peas in my garden, and these little beauties arrived in the post yesterday, a variety called Tom Thumb .
I planted some seed potatoes on Sunday too: Rocket, Wilja, Vivaldi & Charlotte. I've bought potato sacks to use this year, alongside the potato buckets. I've no idea if they will perform as well, but they'll certainly take up less storage space when they are done. Last year the pots produced 2.88kg of yummy tatties, so as there will be twice as many sacks as pots, the sacks have to produce 5.76 kg to win this battle.
Knitting will take place tonight while I listen to Fulham take on Atlético Madrid. ( Yup, I couldn't wait till the World Cup!) Roy Hodgson has done wonders with his team: two years ago they were on the brink of relegation, but he turned that round, got them to a respectable position (7th I think) which got them into the European competitions, and they are the only British side to reach a final this year. He's also probably the most decent man in football, hardworking, patient and not full of the usual
The new PM (Cameron) has put together his cabinet, with Clegg as his deputy and 4 other Lib Dems as ministers too. Sadly there is only one woman in a senior position- Theresa May as Home Sec, (perhaps some of the old Tory bigwigs are a bit confused and think she is in charge of dusting or something?) and no Asian or Black MPS getting ministerial briefs, although there may be some in junior ministerial posts, but they haven't been announced yet.
One of the unforeseen effects of the election and the new coalition government is that I can't be bothered to play Farmville! I'm just clicking twice to feed my virtual dogs and then tootling off. I'm far more interested in the shenanigans within and between the politicos- just like the old days! I don't know how long that will last though, perhaps until the winter when I can't grow my real crops outside.
Edited on fri 14th - the new Tory Party chair is Baroness Warsi, who is now a member of the cabinet, (although she has a seat in the Lords, and is not an elected MP) and is minister without portfolio. She is the first Muslim woman in cabinet.
