breaking news...7.30pm

....Gordon Brown has resigned as PM and has gone to see HMQ to recommend that she invite David Cameron to form a govt.

The Tories seem to be forming a coalition with the Lib Dems, whether this means Lib Dems in the cabinet is not yet clear. There was a coalition in 1977 between Labour and the Liberals which had some agreement on policies but not a structured coalition as during WW2.

It will be interesting to see how the parties work together (if indeed they can work together, as I wouldn't have thought that the Tories and the Lib Dems were natural bed fellows), and how and where they will impose spending cuts in the UK . And there will be cuts, pretty savage cuts.

Brown has also resigned as Labour Leader, so another leadership campaign will be in the forefront of politics, which is always facinating for anyone like me who is/was a student of psychology

Yes, these days you can count on cuts, death and taxes. But it will make for interesting watching!
