Austen On Sunday night I watched the latest BBC adaptation of one of my favourite novels, Emma by Jane Austen (what a contrast to what I was watching last week which was Waking the Dead!).
Emma is played really well by Romola Garai and her sparring partner, Mr Knightley is played by
Jonny Lee Miller, who makes Mr Knightley seem very attractive (often the dry wit of the character is overplayed and the warmth is not shown till later, but Miller is doing a fab job on this. And he's cute. Which matters.) Mr Woodhouse, the old fusspot mother hen, is played by Michael Gambon, who steals every scene- he is tremendous.
The production is tremendous- the scenes at Hartfield, Emma's home are all shot with such warm light, everything is airy & carefree. The contrast with Miss Bates' home, dingy and dull as she struggles to live in genteel poverty, is cleverly shown. Emma has it all, but has no common sense. I'm going to really enjoy the next few weeks watching this.
I picked a bowl of apples off one of my trees today. They are so crisp & juicy when they are fresh. We're all going to tuck into these and do our best to keep the doctor away.
I'm making good progress with J2's scarf- this Lana Grossa is so delightful to work with. I'll get this done then get back to my Fetchings. The pattern (Esther bookmark) is good for TV knitting too- enough in the lace for interest, but not too much to distract from Emma's matchmaking machinations.
I hope that J2 marks this scarf A+!

Hope you enjoy apples, and scarf looks great
Those are my favourite A's as well!!! I love Austen, Apples and Alpaca and could very well deal with all of them in one sitting at the same time :)
