It's a funny present for someone with no discernable musical ability, but every time I went to music shops to get stuff for the kids (sheet music, new strings, valve oil etc) I eyed up the ukeleles with undisguised enthusiasm and so the lovely man/mad fool gave me this one! It's so cute!!
But of course, now I have to practise playing it, and as I'm always nagging the kids to do their practise I have to try to follow my own advice! (dang!) .
So, when the house is empty, I've been watching the training dvd and practising some chords. So far I can manage one! (Is there no beginning to my talents?)
J1 tried to teach me "What can we do with drunken sailor" on Boxing Day, and did a pretty good version of "Smoke on the Water" himself. There can't be many times when "Smoke on the Water" has been played on the ukelele!! Two of his pals who are good guitarists had a shot on it too. What a laugh!
I'm learning to play the melody for "Happy Birthday", in between trying to learn the next chord on the dvd and doing my finger exercises on the frets. I'm surprised at how sore my fingertips on my left hand feel. The kids birthdays are in February so maybe I can be proficient at my first tune by then. (The second tune is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star... so I'm aiming for next Xmas with that one!).
The heavy snow meant that most football fixtures were cancelled this weekend, so I distracted myself by playing Farmville on Facebook. It's great fun, and satisfies my plant needs while my garden is still covered. But larking about on Facebook is eating up my knitting time, which is a bit worrying. I'm not the world's greatest knitter, but I can knit, whereas my musical talent is not on the same scale. ( Scale?? Geddit? I'm so funny... sigh)

Keep at it..by next christmas you will be able to play allsorts of christmas tunes..providing your family lets you!!
