feeling hot, hot, hot !!!

Scotland is basking in a wonderful heatwave at the moment with temperatures around 25C (about 77 F) and without the usual cool breeze to accompany it. This is the first rose to bloom in the garden.

The timing is perfect as our local primary school was having its Spring Fair today and it was great fun to catch up with my kids former teachers and people that I haven't seen in a long time, and of course a chance to have tea & scones, ice-cream and lots of other goodies. I love watching the Scottish country dancing, listening to the Brass Band and admire the teachers for joining in the crazy fun (one teacher was up for being pelted with wet sponges!). It's a great fun-draiser for the school.

I managed to buy some more plants for the garden- some leek seedlings, young lettuce plants, a different type of mint, and parsley (as my parsley didn't survive the winter) and some flowering plants too- some sedums and a Solomon's Seal . I also persuaded some of my pals to buy some young veg plants too, as I'm keen to get them growing more food too.

The warm weather means it's safe for my bean plants to go outside, so now they are happily sitting in the giant pots and I can enjoy watching their growth in the warmth.

I've started shaping the toes on Monkey which I find funny as today is the first day that I've been able to wear cropped trousers, sandals and no socks ! I even painted my toenails!

The good weather and the Spring Fair means that I didn't stay in today to watch the FA cup final: Chelsea beat Everton 2-1, and Rangers beat Falkirk 1-0 in the Scottish cup. It's unusual for me to miss the FA cup finals, I love the romance of it- it's a knockout competition and it's possible that any team could get to the final. But then it's unusual for there to be such a sunny day here.

Today, the sun beat the football!
