East meets West

Cambodian dancers on Princes St, beside the Scott monument. Heavens only knows what they thought of Edinburgh, raining one momemt, brilliant sunshine the next!

Photo taken on my mobile phone, so not amazing quality, though the dancers were wonderful. Two of the dancers are dressed as peacocks.

I love Edinburgh festival, the city is even busier than usual, there are more languages, more accents in the air and even more colour than usual. K, my SIL was up for the weekend and we went for lunch in town and were delighted by these young Cambodian dancers.

K & C had just come back from Borneo and she regaled me with stories of their jungle experience, it sounded amazing. I'm not sure I could sleep in the equivalent of a bird cage in the jungle and listen to monitor lizards attacking monkeys and enjoy being deafened by the frogs and the toads. Lunch at All Bar One on George St , a spot of shopping and then home.

J2 had sailing off Oban and wasn't home till 10.30 so we had an Indian takeaway and a very nice bottle of wine, with more stories of jungle life, snorkeling over the reef, fishing with palm leaves and enjoying what K described as the bamboo dance. She fancies a jaunt to Vietnam next!
