Two Premier League managers were sacked today: Tony Adams by Portsmouth and Luiz Felipe Scolari by Chelsea. Both are relatively new to the clubs and both clubs are concerned by the team's league position.
But whereas Portsmouth are in a relegation battle (24 points from 24 games and in 16th place) Chelsea are still in contention for league honours (49 points and in 4th place). But this is not good enough for their owner Mr Ibramovich who won the league twice when Jose Mourinho was manager.Football is about winning but managers are sometimes not given enough time to impose their authority on the team, and I think both sackings are a bit harsh.
This is in stark contrast to the Banking profession in the UK and the US at the moment, where despite the growing recession, and the collapse of some banks ( Lerhman brothers) and other banks needing to be nationalised (Northern Rock) or needing massive state funding to prop up the banks, the senior bankers still feel that they should earn huge bonuses (10%+ of their salaries).
They should try managing a football club, and see if they can keep their job for a year, let alone get a huge bonus.
