J1 and I went to visit the Logos Hope today at Ocean Terminal, Leith. It is the latest ship for Operation Mobilisation and serves as a Mission ship taking books, building skills & keen volunteers to some of the most poverty stricken parts of the world. The crew is multi-national: our guide was Austrian, the captain is Danish and the servers in the cafe were from the US.
In its former life the ship was a car ferry and some of the original decks remain, but part of the car hold is being converted into a large conference centre to allow gatherings of up to 500 people to take place.
Of course J1 was eyeing up the stage and the lighting/sound rigs and imagining being involved in such a project when he is older. He will have to take a lot of seasickness tablets with him!
We bought some books and cds to support the project. We are so lucky in the West, books are readily available and fairly cheap.
The OM ships are very popular when they bring so many good quality books to some of the poorest parts of the world, helping to educate people, helping them to break out of poverty and bringing hope to so many.
Truly awesome.

wow!!! never heard of that charity group before, they sound brillant, do they buy the books or do people donate them????
