Rent free in exchange for pollination of pear blossom in surrounding garden or munching of green fly on the roses. An attractive array of other spring flowers are available for interested applicants. No refs required.
(the previous year we got one pear - our daft dog was ramming her head underneath the fence to bark madly at next door's dog and she knocked off most of the blossom. I was not pleased, but I put plant pots in front of the trees to protect them last year, but there were no bees!).
So plan A is to put up this ad, plan B is to carry a jam jar with me when I walk the dog and try to catch a bee or three.
My seed potatoes are chitting nicely and I'll probably plant them this weekend in the potato buckets. I've got some beans to get started , lettuce carrot & basil seeds too and I bought some small pak choi plants at the garden centre.
I hope we have a better summer this year so we can enjoy more of our own home grown fruit & veg.
I'm making steady progress on Payton, and listening to Deeper, a kids story as I knit. I read the first book Tunnels a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Underneath London there is a subterranean society established more than 100 years ago. The hero Will Burrows finds it, but is held captive by the people there until they realise that he is one of their own- his mother had fled the colony when he was a toddler taking him with her, but leaving his baby brother behind.
I always enjoy kids fantasy fiction and Roderick Gordon & Brian Williams have done a good job creating an entire believable world. It's good to knit along to!
