another jaunt to the cinema yesterday to see the latest Richard Curtis film "The Boat that Rocked. "
This is a whimsical comedy, not as strong a story as "Four Weddings and a funeral" or "Notting Hill", but enjoyable nonetheless.
Very loosely based on the history of Radio Caroline, the pirate radio station which floated in the North Sea, the film follows the antics of the nutty DJ's and the furious UK government which tried to ban them.
The main star is the soundtrack of course with fantastic music from the 60's (and one anachronistic track from David Bowie!).
I'm too young (ha!) to remember Radio Caroline, but in the 70's I used to listen to Radio Luxembourg late at night when I was supposed to be asleep. My Auntie J won the Best Auntie Award when she gave me a small green transistor radio. I was ecstatic! Emperor Rosko was the main man. Happy days!
Football news: some good news for Sunderland as they got 3 points yesterday against Hull. Sunderland weren't very good, but Hull were worse. D had said a while ago that he thought that Hull might go into a tailspin and face relegation despite their phenomenal start to the season. Newcastle play Spurs today and the Toon desperately need all three points.
Wolves are guaranteed promotion from the Championship to the Premier, and Charlton continue their plummet down the ranks as they leave the championship. Under Alan Curbishley, Charlton were a solid reliable side, nothing fancy but they did fairly well. Now they are collapsing onto a black hole of misery. I feel for them & their fans.

My dad used to listen to Radio Caroline, back when it was pirate and still does!
I really want to see this too! But the nearest cinema is in Dunfermline! And I don't drive, neither does the b/f, so I have to wait until it comes out on DvD!
